The AGM will be held when the restrictions regarding coronavirus allow it.
The shop is now open on saturday and sunday, 10.00am - 12 noon. Please observe the covid19 social distancing rules.
From Sunday 2nd August (Saturday will still be cash and cheque only), the Beighton Allotment shop will be taking Credit and Debit Cards as well as ApplePay.
For those members concerned about using cash or cheques due to Covid 19, the card machine will also accept contactless payments up to £45.
You can still pay by cash or cheque, but this new facility will mean that you won't have to bring your chequebook or cash with you.
As this year it will be impossible to hold the usual AGM (i.e. open to all members), the committee have had to make a couple of urgent decisions regarding rents and the continual complaints about our gates (an ongoing issue from the last couple of AGM's).
With regards to the gates, we have now had quotes for replacing the gateon all four lanes and the total for replacing them is approximately £7,000, substantially more than we have funds for.
The two gates which have been the main perennial problem are C gate and A gate, (especially now B gate had been broken apart, rewelded and is now running smoother than ever!). While A gate is very heavy and does need attention, C gate is also heavy, is by a long way the most used gate, and it also needs a safe, lockable height restrictor (as has been shown by the recent increase in dumping in the car park) so a decision has been made to replace this gate only this year at a cost of £2,500. This will be done in the next few months once the contractor gives us an installation slot. Around £1,000 of this project will be paid for from the retained Summer Fayre money raised over the previous 3-4 year's, the remainder will come from Association funds which brings us on to rents.
If we maintain rents at last year's level and purchase a new c gate, we will have less than £500 in our account at the lowest point (which we hit every year once all costs have been paid and we are fully stocked with product in February / March). With this in mind, the committee have agreed that this year, rents will be £25. This is still around half the cost of a similar SCC plot and we will then review the rent amount at next years AGM.
The allotment shop will be open from this coming Saturday to pay this year's rent, however for those unable to get to the allotments between now and the closing date for rent payments on 31st July 2020, if you would like to email us at email@example.com ,
for this year only, we are happy to send you an invoice with our bank account details on for electronic payment. Payment at the shop is still preferable so please only use the ePayment option if you are currently self-isolating.
